Frequently asked questions
Is this the same software as Abalso Backup Pro 27?
Yes, exactly the same. There is only one program and one download. The storage plan unlocks the Pro features inside it – you do not have to buy anything extra, reinstall anything or change anything. If you are already using the free version, your jobs and backups remain unchanged.
Can I also back up to other destinations, or only to abalso Storage?
To all of them. The plan opens up the full Pro scope: external hard drive, NAS, S3-compatible cloud, WebDAV, FTP and SFTP – in addition to your abalso Storage. You can run several jobs side by side and back the same data up to two different destinations. That is exactly what the 3-2-1 principle recommends, and it is the real reason Pro is included in the plan instead of being sold separately.
Do I get new major versions as well?
Yes. As long as the storage contract runs, every update is included – including the move to a new major version, for example from Backup 27 to 28. That is the difference to the one-off licence: there, updates are included for twelve months within the major version you bought.
Can you read my data?
Not with encryption switched on. Your data is encrypted with AES-256 on your own computer and leaves it only in that form; what sits on our server are unreadable data blocks. We do not know the password and cannot recover it either – so keep the recovery kit that the app generates for you as a PDF.
How many devices does a plan cover?
One device. Anyone who wants to back up on several computers needs a separate plan or licence per device.
Can I try it beforehand?
Yes, and we expressly recommend it. First download the free version and set up a job to an external hard drive. From there you can try the Pro features free of charge for seven days. Only once everything suits you do you book the storage.
When the contract ends
Cancellation or no renewal. Your backups remain retrievable for up to 30 days after the contract ends – time enough to download them or switch to a destination of your own. After that the storage is deleted for good. We announce the deletion by email beforehand.
Late payment. First we block only new backups, after notice in text form and a reasonable grace period. Retrieving your existing data stays open. Deletion happens no earlier than 30 days after that block, and we announce that separately by email as well.
Deleted data cannot be recovered. So always keep an additional backup outside abalso Storage – on an external hard drive or a NAS. That is precisely what the 3-2-1 principle means, and the free version is enough for it. The binding rules are in section 2 of the licence terms.
